Tuko and the Firefly

Tuko was a little house gecko who knew every crack, beam, and corner of the old bahay. He liked telling the other animals, “No one knows this home better than I do.” One evening, a tiny firefly named Alitaptap rested beside the window. Tuko laughed. “Your light is so small. What could you possibly help with?” That night, a storm arrived and the electricity went out. The house became completely dark. Tuko hurried along the wall, certain he knew the way, but a fallen basket blocked his usual path. He became confused. Alitaptap flew beside him and lit the unfamiliar route one small glow at a time. Together they reached the kitchen, where they found a candle for the family. Tuko lowered his head. “I thought being familiar with everything meant I never needed help.” Alitaptap smiled. “Even a small light can matter when the path changes.” From then on, Tuko stopped measuring others by their size and started asking what they could contribute.
