The First Interview

Subjects: English • Career Readiness   •   Value: Preparation & Self-Belief

Miguel had practiced the question “Tell me about yourself” many times, but when his first real interview began, his mind went blank. He almost apologized for being inexperienced. Then he remembered Kuwago’s advice: “Do not describe what you lack. Connect what you have learned to what the employer needs.” Miguel spoke about organizing a university event, resolving a scheduling problem, and helping a team meet a deadline. When asked about a weakness, he explained how he used to avoid asking questions and how he had learned to clarify instructions early. He did not answer every question perfectly, but he left knowing he had represented himself truthfully and professionally. The experience taught him that confidence is not pretending to know everything. It is preparing well enough to explain what you can contribute and what you are ready to learn.

Moral Lesson

Confidence grows from preparation, truthful self-awareness, and willingness to learn.
